There are a lot of different variations of Texas Holdem. Along with the different variations come a lot of different strategies and even some different rules.

For the most part, the rules are all the same, as is the structure of how the game is played. On the other hand, the different variations should not be played with the same strategies.

Even though the structure and rules are the same—it really is a completely different game. The differences between Limit Texas Holdem poker and No Limit Texas Holdem poker are very important to understand; at the very least.

Limit Texas Holdem Rules:

Limit Texas Hold em rules are probably one of the hardest to understand. There are two different limit variations of Texas Holdem.

Assuming that you already know the basics of how to play Texas Holdem, this article will discuss the betting variations (limit, no limit and fixed limit).

As mentioned above, there are two different limit variations. The two limit variations are Pot Limit and Fixed Limit.

Pot Limit Texas Hold em is pretty simple to understand. The only real betting rule is that you cannot bet anymore than the pot. So for example, if there is $100 in the pot, the max bet would be $100.

The other form of Limit Texas Holdem is Fixed Limit. This is where you will only be able to bet a specific amount of money. For example if you were playing Fixed Limit $5/$10, you would bet only in increments of $5 and $10. In the first two rounds of betting you can only bet $5. In the last two rounds of betting you can bet only $10. There is normally a max out of 3 raises in one round.

Limit Texas Holdem Strategy:

Texas Holdem is a game of strategy, no matter what the betting variation is. In Pot Limit and Fixed Limit, there is a much different strategy than No Limit. In Limit, you are going to see a lot more players in a lot more hands.

A hand like pocket aces is probably not going to be nearly as valuable as it would be if you were playing No Limit.

That brings in a strategy that is going to call for a lot of high quality made hands. You just simply cannot protect your hand as well in a Limit game as you can in a No Limit game. Then again, if you are playing high stakes it would be a different story.

No Limit Texas Holdem Rules:

There truly is no other game like No Limit Texas Holdem. It is one of the only poker games that will allow for you to lose everything you have in front of you in one single hand. The only real difference on paper, between Limit and No Limit is the betting structure.

In No Limit, you can bet as much as you want—there is no limit to how much money you can put into the middle of the table. It is not uncommon for a player to lose their entire stack of chips in one single hand. It is also not uncommon to quadruple your chip stack in the matter of 10 minutes.

That is one of the reasons why this game is so attractive to so many—it is extremely exciting.

No Limit Texas Hold em Strategy:

No Limit Holdem probably takes the most strategy out of every poker game around. You have more control over what happens to you in this game than you do in any other poker game. The reason for that is because of the simple fact that you can bet as much as you want.

You can take complete control of any game just by betting and making a tough decision for your opponents. The fact that your opponents know they can lose all of their money puts fear into them and makes a much better chance for a fold.

There are a lot more ways to win, and a lot more folding going on in a No Limit game.

While the actual rules of the two games are identical (with the exception of the betting structure), the two variations are completely different.

The only way that a Limit game could really compare to a No Limit game would be if it were a high stakes game. If you play in a low or even medium stakes Limit game, you are going to see a lot of players playing a lot of hands.

If you are trying to play it safe; go with Limit Texas Hold em. If you want some excitement in your life then turn to No Limit Texas Holdem.
